THE PHENIX
3500, rue Saint-Jacques Ouest, Montreal, H4C 1H2, Québec
2018 INOVA AWARD
Located in the southwestern sector of Montreal, this building stands out as a model of ecological and social responsibility. This former warehouse was transformed by some major renovations in 2014. 3500 rue Saint-Jacques now showcases some of the best practices in the field of architecture, urban design and sustainable development.
An eco-machine has been designed to filter the water of both the building and the site, using a bio retention basin and sophisticated indoor and outdoor planting strategies. These facilities contribute to the comfort of living spaces and the quality of indoor air.
The rooftop has photovoltaic panels and a heat recovery system is integrated in the tympana of the curtain wall for autonomous air heating. This building houses the head office of Lemay, an internationally renowned architectural firm and winner of numerous awards.
In the summer 2017, the artist Taka Sudo painted a mural symbolizing the Phoenix of Human Rights on one of the facades of the building that now bears the name: The Phoenix.
